How Much Does SEO Management Cost in 2026

SEO

A common question I get asked is how much SEO management costs. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer because it really depends on what you want done. Are you looking for a full strategy, someone to go in and do the work, or a combination of both?

The truth is, SEO is long-term work. You rarely see instant results, so pricing and expectations need to reflect that.

How I Price My SEO Management

I like to keep things simple. My minimum fee is £1,500 per month.

This includes strategy, hands-on work, and essentially becoming part of your team rather than just giving advice.

I usually work on 12-month contracts because SEO takes time to deliver meaningful results. If you want me to take a look at your website, you can book a meeting on my contact page. I will give your site a quick once-over and let you know what could be improved.

How SEO Is Usually Priced

SEO pricing can vary depending on whether you work with an agency or a freelancer. Most SEO work is billed based on time. That can include:

  • Writing content

  • Creating strategy

  • Meetings

  • Technical fixes

Some providers use performance-based pricing, where they take a percentage of income generated from SEO. This only works if your business is large enough. For smaller sites with less revenue, this approach usually does not make sense.

Should You Hire a SEO Freelancer or Keep It In-House?

Here’s a easy table to help you out with your selection:

Approach Pros Cons
Hire a SEO Freelancer Faster results
Less hassle and fewer layers of communication
Often better ROI and lower cost than agencies
Management fee
Finding someone you fully trust can take time
In-House Full control over the work
Lower long-term cost if fully utilized
Available five days a week
Time-consuming to hire and train
Risk of wasted time if they are a generalist
Limited specialist knowledge across platforms
SEO Agency Access to specialists and established processes
Coverage for holidays and sickness
Experience across multiple industries
Less direct control
Often handled by junior account managers
Communication can feel impersonal

Is SEO Management Worth It?

Yes, if it is done properly. A good SEO specialist can:

  • Drive more clicks to your website

  • Fix technical problems

  • Write content that converts

  • Improve user experience

If you do not understand SEO, you could be losing valuable clicks and sales. I only advise SEO management if it makes sense for your ROI, but most larger businesses have a dedicated person focused on this. Missing out on SEO can mean missing out on growth.
